Our Hearts Were Beating for the Red, White, and Blue

On the morning of July 2nd, under a beautiful blue sky, the children and staff of Sacred Heart Villa were all decked out in red, white, and blue as they paraded around the block. Every class made patriotic decorations: instruments, flags, lanterns, hats, and decorated shirts. All week long, the children learned that the Fourth of July celebrates our country's birthday. The children learned how the United States formed a new country with signing the Declaration of Independence. The teachers taught about respect for our country, our flag, and each person in our country. The words of the Pledge of Allegiance were explained. The children learned some patriotic songs and sang those when they gathered (while remaining socially distant from the other classes) on the lawn of the American Legion Post on Edwards Street. Parents, family and special friends met the classes at the American Legion Post. By 9:00 AM, the sidewalks along the Edwards and Bischoff were lined with parents and siblings who came to see the little ones from The Villa. The children did a great job saying the Pledge of Allegiance, singing several patriotic tunes with Ms. Karen's lead, waving their decorations, and shaking their instruments. The children looked so precious and festive! Parents expressed thanks to Ms. Kris and Sr. Bridget for letting the children parade, perform and show some pride in our country.
