Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

This week at Sacred Heart Villa we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week.  An annual tradition that began in 1974, it is a national celebration of Catholic education and an opportunity to recognize the importance, the value, and the contributions of Catholic education to the Church and the world. Catholic Schools Week events showcase and celebrate the rich traditions and the incredible value of Catholic education.

Here at The Villa we try hard to bring this celebration down to the children’s level of understanding. We do this by focusing on one aspect of our school community each day.

On Monday, we celebrate being part of a caring community and neighborhood. We will start our day with a pre-recorded prayer service by the Kindergarten class which highlights the gift of our faith which is planted in us. We will help the children recognize who has taught them about God and how special this gift of faith is.  The students will also learn how local businesses on The Hill help support our school. The classes will make an art piece to show our appreciation to these businesses.

We will celebrate our students’ gifts, talents, and faith on Tuesday. We celebrate how Catholic schools provide a nurturing environment for children to grow and learn not only in academics, but also in their faith. In the past, we have gathered the whole school in the playroom to do a fun activity. This year we will gather through Zoom to share songs and dances. Sr. Margaret is preparing a special snack for this day.

Wednesday we will celebrate our country through a video presentation, and offer prayers for our new president, vice president and other leaders. In the Gospels, Jesus calls us all to work for peace. We will talk about being peacemakers and how we can do our part to bring peace to our homes, school, neighborhood and beyond.

On Thursday, we will celebrate the many ways people respond to God’s call to be his friends and his followers. We are all called to live a life of service to help others. We will teach the children the varied ways people respond to that call: single life, married life, religious life and ordained. Each class will have a prayer service this morning to thank God for His gift of calling each of us to be his followers.

We will conclude Friday by celebrating the faculty and staff of The Villa. We are engaging the classes to recognize and thank people on our staff so they know how much they are appreciated. We will have a Zoom gathering and acknowledge each staff person and the blessings they bring to The Villa. We will also recognize the life and legacy of Sr. Felicetta Cola, one of the founding Sisters of our school who ministered here for 68 years!

As we celebrate our Catholic school, we are also very grateful to the parents who have entrusted the care of their precious little ones to us.  Sacred Heart Villa is strong, thriving and well known because our parents share the good news of what we do here to provide an exceptional educational program rooted in strong Catholic values.
