Many Improvements Are Being Made at Sacred Heart Villa
Many people may be wondering, “What is happening at the Villa these days?” While it seems a bit odd not to hear the sounds of the children, there is much going on at the Villa – inside and out. We have been utilizing this time to prepare our school for when the children return. While keeping safe distance and dawning a mask, our maintenance men have been very busy cleaning the Villa from top to bottom. The day Enes and Nico cleaned every area rug in the building was quite a sight. They hung the rugs outside to dry over fences and playground equipment. It looked like a rug sale! Michael has scrubbed every table and chair in the building. He also cleaned every shelf and cabinet in the kitchen area. Enes washed every window and all blinds. As a team, they repaired and painted the back porch. The handrails on the north side of the building were also painted from the roof down to the first floor. As a team, the three men have also moved furniture, rearranged rooms and cleaned out closets with Ms. Kris and Sr. Alice. Even the Sisters have been helping with projects. Sisters Alice, Matthew Maria, Christine and Bridget have been gardening. They have spent hours pulling and digging up weeds from the front vegetable garden. Since the children were unable to plant this Spring, the weeds had taken over. Now there are rows of various vegetables and fruit growing. A local nursery donated many of the plants and some were started from seeds. There are still some herbs to be planted soon. In expectation of the children’s return, we wanted to have produce for the children to pick and enjoy. They have also been working over in the area by the grotto planting forsythia bushes and different types of ground covering donated to the school. We foresee the Sisters keeping busy all summer long keeping up with the weeds and watering. We all look forward to the children coming back to the Villa and exploring all the things done for them by our dedicated staff.
