SHV Presented a Program at the Garden

Sister Bridget Smith, ASCJ, Peggy Knock, Ellen Cibulka, and Stacey Hulsey presented a program at the Missouri Botanical Garden on Wednesday, January 24.  The program was titled “Nurturing Little Minds with God’s Creation.”  It was part of a Conference for Teachers participating in the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC) Teacher Partnership Program.

The LREC provides resources and training for teachers interested in providing their students with outdoor learning experiences.  Students learn about nature by planting gardens, observing, measuring, and keeping journals.  They also bring the outside in by incorporating natural materials in the classroom.

The Sacred Heart Villa teachers gave a slide presentation, detailing how the school staff collaborated and  transformed the traditional lawn and playground into a certified outdoor classroom.  The experience has nurtured not just the plants, but the entire Villa community.
