Star Spangled Summer Spectacular!

SHV’s Summer Camp has been full of fun and exciting activities. The week of June 17th we celebrated a week dedicated to the renowned child author Eric Carle. We selected several of his books that had very different “characters”: The Tiny Seed; From Head to Toe; Brown Bear, Brown Bear; The Very Busy Spider; The Mixed-up Chameleon; The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The teacher read a different book from his collection of award winning books. We hoped that this author study would help the children to see similarities in the author’s style and artwork. We guided the children to appreciate the uniqueness of each book and main “characters”. Several of the older classes did some beautiful artwork in the style of Eric Carle. They were able to appreciate his clever and creative artwork in his books.

The week of June 24th, we will have a circus theme. Each class will decide upon a “circus” act to perform to the other classes on Thursday. It will be interesting to see what these little ones and their teachers come up with. We have heard that some classes may do some balancing acts or simple tumbling, and some may perform as clowns. There will be many crafts completed revolving around the circus theme.

The week of July 1st will be a three day week for the students so we will have to pack in a lot of patriotic stories, songs, activities and artwork in just a few days to celebrate the birthday of the USA.  Wednesday, July 3rd, the Villa will have our annual Fourth of July Parade. At 9:00AM the classes will file out of The Villa going east on Wilson, right on Edwards, and then stopping at the American Legion Hall lawn where we will sing a few patriotic songs as family members watch from the sidewalk.  Afterwards we will continue our parade heading west on Bischoff Avenue to Macklind Avenue, and then back to The Villa. Parents, try to have your child dressed in red, white and blue. Making holidays special for these toddlers and preschoolers helps to foster a love and respect for our country and its peoples. These will hopefully grow into fond, treasured memories they can share with others

Enjoy the long Fourth of July holiday. The Villa will be closed July 4th and 5th.
