Our youngsters are so excited to start summer camp at The Villa. The children usually have a splashing great time during these more relaxed weeks of camp. The teachers plan many outdoor fun activities. Every class has assigned times to enjoy the water play stations set up in our outdoor classroom space. Sometimes two teachers will band together and walk the classes down to Berra Park to play in the water geyser at the playground area. Sometimes it is hard to get the little ones out of the water. The call to get cleaned up for lunch usually entices them to get moving indoors.
For the summer session, parents are advised to bring/do the following:
- Shorts & t-shirts may be worn – no uniforms
- Apply sunscreen before coming to school and send in sunscreen so it may be reapplied
- Ball cap or visor (child’s name labeled on it so it does not get lost)
- Swimsuit
- Water shoes
- Towel (child’s name labeled on it so it does not get lost)
- Napper with plastic zip-loc bag
- Small stuffed animal for nap time
- Small bag or backpack
- Plastic bags (like grocery store bags) are helpful for packing up wet items
- Diapers & wipes for toddler classes
For the rest of the summer, each week will have a unique theme. The first short week, May 29-31, will have kindness as our theme. The children will hear stories, discuss and act out ways to spread kindness, learn why kindness matters and make kindness notes to share with others. Our teachers are attending a workshop on May 28th about social-emotional learning and conscious discipline. They will be able to apply skills and activites learned the very next day as we kick off summer camp.
Each week we will keep you abreast of the theme for the coming week and share with you any exciting special activities that the staff has planned. It looks like it will be a fun time!
