Honoring the Past

During the next two weeks of summer camp, we will have two areas of focus, both dealing with times gone by. During the last week of June, we will step way back in time as the children pretend to be paleontologists learning about dinosaurs. Our young scientist will hunt for dinosaur eggs, dig for dinosaur bones, excavate dinosaurs from ice blocks, and reenact dinosaurs stomping! We expect to hear some fierce roaring, too!

During the latter part of the week, the classes will begin their preparations for our annual Patriotic Parade. There will be plenty of red, white, and blue decorations including something handmade for each class to wear for the parade. On Friday, June 30th at 9:00AM we will proudly process in the parade around the block. The classes will file out of The Villa going east on Wilson, right on Edwards, and then stopping at the American Legion Hall lawn where we will sing a few patriotic songs as family members watch from the sidewalk.  Afterwards we will continue our parade heading west on Bischoff Avenue to Macklind Avenue, and then back to The Villa. The whole week of July 3rd will be devoted to learning songs, hearing stories, and playing games that all part of our United States’ culture. On Monday, July 3rd the classes will have a second parade at 9:00AM just around the Villa property in honor of our nation’s birthday since The Villa is closed that day. Making holidays special for these toddlers and preschoolers helps to foster a love and respect for our country and its peoples. These will hopefully grow into fond, treasured memories they can share with others.
