Please join us on October 18 at 1 pm at the corner of Macklind and Wilson Avenues to celebrate the naming of a street in honor of Sister Felicetta Cola, the longtime Sacred Heart Villa educator remembered for her devotion to children, her homemade pasta and her decades of service to the community.
Born Anna Cola in 1913 in Castelgomberto, Italy, Sister Felicetta came to St. Louis in 1939 and went on to lead Sacred Heart Villa for more than fifty years, teaching thousands of children from the Hill's Italian-American families. She was known for rising at 4 am to make pasta by hand, for teaching piano to generations of students, and for creating nativity scenes that became a cherished part of the neighborhood's holiday traditions. She received the St. Louis Woman of Achievement Award in 1963 and the Italian Heritage Award in 1992, and remained a fixture on the Hill until her death in 2004 at age 90.
The dedication ceremony will include remarks from Alderman Matt Devoti, a blessing from Msgr. James Ramacciotti, historical remarks from Sister Carol Sansone, ASCJ, a sign unveiling led by Sister Christian Price, ASCJ alongside students from Sacred Heart Villa and much more! A reception with refreshments and all are welcome to attend.
