Listen to the Story

"Listen! Listen! Listen to the story of the holy Child sent to us down from heaven's glory many years ago...,"  sings the PreK children at Sacred Heart Villa during our annual Christmas Pageant. This annual Christmas play is an important part of our school's legacy.  The Christmas pageant enables us to teach the children the true reason for this season.

There are several features that makes The Villa's show so special.  The PreK students perform the songs and say their lines with little direction from the teachers during the performance. The hours of practicing the 10 songs and the rhyming script pay off! The children perform beautifully and confidently.  The school has some incredible costumes we have used for many years. The rhyming script written by Karen Jaeger and Sr. Bridget is all about Christ’s birth, the true “reason for the season.” Another part of this pageant’s tradition are certain unique scenes that are incorporated. A living Advent wreath starts off the performance. Then Angel Gabriel appears to young Mary. Mary rides on the back of a near life size stuffed animal donkey attached to a wooden platform with wheels which Joseph pulls across the stage. (This donkey is one of a kind and has appeared in The Villa's pageant for the past 14 years.) The shows finale includes with another tradition: the whole group of PreK students lively singing Feliz Navidad while shaking bells.

The play was performed on December 9th for the PreK parents and will be performed one more time for the younger children in the school on December 21st. We hope the children will forever treasure their performance of The Villa’s Christmas pageant. We meet people who attended our school years ago who proudly tell us what was their part in the Christmas pageant and can still recite their lines!  They are always excited to hear that the tradition continues.
